SPOKES CAFé STARTED AS A PLACE TO GRAB A PRE-RIDE COFFEE AND A POST-RIDE BEER…AND GET YOUR BIKE FIXED UP.

Nine years and a global pandemic changed things. During the lockdown, Spokes Café fed front line workers and healthcare professionals in addition to fueling neighbors and cyclists.

Now instead of a bike shop in the back, Spokes’ original location on Washington St. has a catering hub. And instead of happy hour specials, they focus on getting their customers through the work day with well-crafted coffee and crave-worthy food.

this is dan.

Dan Walsh — the food guy from the start — took over and expanded Spokes. You’ll see him dropping fresh ingredients off at the three downtown and KU Med locations or running things from the counter on Washington Street.

He’s passionate about perfectly toasted bread, melty cheese, and hot sauce.

Dan was born in KC and raised on good BBQ, ranch dressing, and his mom’s home cooking. He ran a food truck for his family catering business when he was still in high school. And after a successful career as a corporate executive, he’s back to doing what he loves at Spokes: thinking about, talking about, and serving food.
